MARTINŮ FESTTAGE
Since 1995 MARTINŮ FESTTAGE organised by pianist Robert Kolinsky and his team take place in Basel every autumn. Basel’s oldest classical music festival ranks "among the smallest and finest of its kind" according to the press. It remains true to its original idea to spread the opus of Bohuslav Martinů and to motivate internationally renowned artists to include it into their repertoires. The annual events are limited to a few, but carefully selected evenings that relate Martinů’s music to works of other great composers. In addition to classical chamber and orchestral concerts the programme contains jazz, film evenings, ballet and contemporary dance. The family concerts, combining music and narration, are especially addressed to young visitors. Thanks to their constancy and the high artistic level, MARTINŮ FESTTAGE have become an integral part of Basel's culture. They are under the auspices of Federal Councillor Alain Berset, Secretary Madeleine Albright and conductor Mariss Jansons.
